Extracting from Tangential Mode, B2420 is a material application study that combines the methodology of creating volume (verticality in this case), displaying the motion of kissing and the relationship of lines, surfaces and implied volumes. The objective is to explore the possibilities of utilizing similar techniques from previous studies and experimenting on a different scale; in this case, a dining table and seating bench.
The notion of bundling and "tangent-ing" has always been one of the techniques to create volume; the legs display a simplification of such technique. Meanwhile it maintains the quality of the motion of kissing. All of the steel rods that make up the legs are connected at individual nodes and split to become part of the overall structure of the leg. This motion can also be found in how the leg touches the floor and how it supports the top. The pattern on the table top is extracted from Tangential Mode, in juxtaposition with the figure of the leg to create an affect of a tangential moment.
B2420 is one experiment tin an ongoing research conducted over the past 12 months. A special thanks to Tortoise Industries and Vincent Pocsik who have helped in the fabrication process and helped making B2420 happen.
